I used to keep my political views in a different blog. I'm not only breaking with that, I'm also going to be breaking my unwritten rule about not contributing to brainless soundbites;
"Supporting Our Troops" by keeping them in a seemingly endless war is like "Supporting The Swimteam" by holding their heads underwater.
I was coming home this morning from the gas station (where ten bucks barely bought a quarter of a tank--in my small car), and I got behind a minivan that was decked out in all sorts of patriotic colors. There was a "God Bless the USA" flag on the back (I have no trouble with this, being a believer in a God and all), one of those yellow "Support Our Troops" ribbons, and a little sticker above them both that said, "Marriage=One Man + One Woman."
One man and one woman, eh? Well, the problem I had with that sticker (other than it being directed at such a small minority of the population that the advertising on it need not exist) is that it had three figures on it. I finally realized the problem(s) I have with the Marriage Ammendment folks.
Their formula is incomplete.
They've left the children out of the equation. Unless, that is, they believe that marriages should remain one man and one woman....
That would be an interesting ammendment. Not only would they exclude same sex couples, they could slip in a passage that anulls marriages once they become one man, one woman and a child! I mean, come on! Half of the marriages out there wind up broken after children are born anyway. Why not make it one hundred percent, and bestow the blessings of state governments and churches?
Just a little something to think about....
Seperation of Church and State is indeed a Myth! And Thomas Jefferson is My Hero!
